Week #5: focus group workshop

This week I (with the rest of the dev team) have been preparing a workshop to do with the focus group to learn what the players that are actually going to play the game want.

We executed two activities: Six Thinking Hats and Zen Voting.
Six Thinking Hats was used to obtain new ideas (mainly though of by the focus group), objective pros and cons of the several approaches (given by the focus group and previously brainstormed by the dev team), and how the elements of the focus group felt about them.
After all the ideas were shared and commented on, we used Zen Voting to decide which ideas the dev team is going to implement, according to the preferences of the focus group. For that, each person was given 3 "green votes" and 2 "red votes", that represent a desired and undesired idea, respectively.

The image above represents one idea board created during the workshop: the first activity was used to generate the ideas, and the second to decide which ones were to be implemented. In this example, we were trying to understand what the players prefer to happen when the character is detected, and we ended up deciding to implement "Chase and Catch", "Escape possible but no reset on guard alert", and possibly "Dialogue stealth is more forgiving", which mean the player can escape the pursuing guards, but they will remain alert for the threat, and choosing a wrong dialogue option will not immediately result in detection.

For the rest of the week, I will be writing the report for this workshop and starting to implement the new ideas.
